Veterans Day is a U.S. legal holiday dedicated to American veterans of all wars. In 1918, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, was declared between the Allied nations and Germany in World War I, then known as “the Great War.” Commemorated in many countries as Armistice Day the following year, November 11th became a federal holiday in the United States in 1938. |

Meet at Old Juan's Cantina at 5pm on November 11th before the show, "Scary Poppins" by the Melodrama!
The Melodrama favorite returns! Young Jack and Jill Peabody live in Victorian London with their widowed father, a nutty inventor with little time to pay attention to his children. But when the children write to their favorite Super Nanny, they get more than they bargained for — instead of Mary Poppins they end up with her bizarre twin sister, Scary Poppins. And when an evil Russian ambassador shows up desperate to get his hands on one of Professor Peabody’s inventions, it’s up to Scary Poppins to save the day. Full of hilarious song satires and pop culture references, this show is a “practically perfect” parody for the whole family.

Valentine's Day, also called Saint Valentine's Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine, is celebrated annually on February 14. In honor of one or two early Christian martyrs named Saint Valentine and, through later folk traditions, has become a significant cultural, religious, and commercial celebration of romance and love in many regions of the world.
In addition to the United States, Valentine’s Day is celebrated in Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, France and Australia. In Great Britain, Valentine’s Day began to be popularly celebrated around the 17th century. Americans probably began exchanging hand-made valentines in the early 1700s. In the 1840s, Esther A. Howland began selling the first mass-produced valentines in America. Howland, known as the “Mother of the Valentine,” made elaborate creations with real lace, ribbons and colorful pictures known as “scrap.” Today, according to Hallmark, an estimated 145 million Valentine’s Day cards are sent each year, making Valentine’s Day the second largest card-sending holiday of the year (more cards are sent at Christmas).

Feb 26, 2023 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM
It is with much delight that we announce our popular 37th Annual Wine Tasting & Auction on February 26, 2023, from 1-4 pm at the Lompoc Veterans Memorial Building.
This year we have chosen the Lompoc Trails Hike and Bike Committee as the recipient of proceeds from this year’s event. Through your generosity, we hope they will be able to build a new set of hiking and biking trails at Lookout Point on the South end of Lompoc, a project will have a large impact on the quality of life in the community and will provide unique opportunities to improve both physical and mental health of Lompoc residents. The establishment of these trails in the Lompoc Valley will help to preserve the natural border of the city while encouraging careful utilization of the endowed green space.
Interested in being a sponsor or wine vendor? As we prepare for this event, we are offering the chance for businesses, organizations, and community members to support us through sponsorship opportunities or an in-kind donation for our silent and live auctions. Please consider a generous level of sponsorship that works for you. All levels include advertisement in the program.

St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated annually on March 17, the anniversary of his death in the fifth century. The Irish have observed this day as a religious holiday for over 1,000 years. On St. Patrick’s Day, which falls during the Christian season of Lent, Irish families would traditionally attend church in the morning and celebrate in the afternoon. Lenten prohibitions against the consumption of meat were waived and people would dance, drink and feast on the traditional meal of Irish bacon and cabbage.
More than 100 St. Patrick's Day parades are held across the United States; New York City and Boston are home to the largest celebrations. In 1848, several New York Irish Aid societies decided to unite their parades to form one official New York City St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Today, that parade is the world‘s oldest civilian parade and the largest in the United States, with over 150,000 participants. Each year, nearly 3 million people line the 1.5-mile parade route to watch the procession, which takes more than five hours. Today, people of all backgrounds celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, especially throughout the United States, Canada and Australia. Although North America is home to the largest productions, St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated around the world in locations far from Ireland, including Japan, Singapore and Russia. Popular St. Patrick’s Day recipes include Irish soda bread, corned beef and cabbage and champ. In the United States, people often wear green on St. Patrick’s Day. |

Easter is a Christian holiday that celebrates the belief in the resurrection of Jesus Christ. In the New Testament of the Bible, the event is said to have occurred three days after Jesus was crucified by the Romans and died in roughly A.D. 30. The holiday concludes the “Passion of Christ,” a series of events and holidays that begins with Lent—a 40-day period of fasting, prayer and sacrifice—and ends with Holy Week, which includes Holy Thursday (the celebration of Jesus’ Last Supper with his 12 Apostles, also known as “Maundy Thursday”), Good Friday (on which Jesus’ crucifixion is observed) and Easter Sunday.
Examples of non-religious Easter traditions include Easter eggs, and related games such as egg rolling and egg decorating. Many people—mostly children—also participate in Easter egg “hunts,” in which decorated eggs are hidden. Perhaps the most famous Easter tradition for children is the annual White House Easter Egg Roll, when children roll Easter eggs down Capitol Hill. In some households, a character known as the Easter Bunny delivers candy and chocolate eggs to children on Easter Sunday morning. These candies often arrive in an Easter basket. Today, Easter is a commercial event as well as a religious holiday, marked by high sales for greeting cards, candies (such as Peeps, chocolate eggs and chocolate Easter bunnies) and other gifts.
