Dave Baker presents on the Lompoc Hiking Trails to be supported by Lompoc Rotary's Wine Auction

Although Dave Baker works as a Fire Captain for Carpinteria, he spends his time championing his hometown of Lompoc, California. A winner of the Lompoc Valley Chamber of Commerce's Man of the Year in 2015 (along with his wife, Dr. Theresa Martinez-Baker who won Woman of the Year) and a nominee for the 10th Annual Flower Valley Peace Award, Dave's contributions to the Lompoc Community are notable; he spear-headed the organization that put together the River Bend Bike Park that features obstacle courses for bikers of all ages to enjoy, he was a major coordinator of the all-volunteer-run "Every 15 Minutes" programs featured at both Lompoc and Cabrillo High Schools that engages emergency responders with adolescents to warn of the effects of drunk driving, and during their five-year-run with Relay for Life, The Bakers raised over $100,000 for cancer awareness, and continue to this day to fundraise financial support for medical bills for a family struggling with cancer in the Lompoc Valley with an annual softball tournament with hundreds of participants.

His focus now is using what he learned to put the River Bend Bike Park together to establish the Lompoc Hiking Trails Committee under the Lompoc Valley Parks, Recreation and Pool Foundation, Inc. -- a non-profit organization unaffiliated with the City of Lompoc that umbrellas other notable committees such as the River Bend Bike Park, the Lompoc Valley Fallen Warriors Memorial, the Lompoc Seniors Club, and Barkin' Park Dog Park.

With the successful launch of the Bike Park back in 2015, Cecilia Walker gifted a plot of land to the committee that happens to encompass the extremely popular hiking path to Look Out Point. Dave and his committee have already engaged with talks with the Santa Barbara County -- since their land is considered county, and not city property -- who are just as excited to work with them to bring more Green Recreation to the County.

His presentation to the Lompoc Rotary Club will encompass just how far they've already come, and how much farther it will take.
